Bradley Ally, Barbados’ top male swimmer recently made his presence felt at the Natation Meeting National d’Automne at the Compeigne, Piscine Mercieres in France. Ally momentarily put aside his favourite IM events and showed his mettle as a sprinter setting two new national open short course records in the 100 M breaststroke and the 100 M butterfly. He rattled Andrei Cross’ domination as the national breaststroke King when he posted 1.01.79 splits lower than Cross’ 1:01.88, a time done in November 2008. He next attacked fellow team mate Shawn Clarke’s record in the 100 M butterfly erasing the old 54.40 done in 2009 and replacing with 53:55 which won him gold and a pool record in the process. Posting 55:36 in the 100 M backstroke, he came close to former Olympian Nicky Neckles record of 55:08 and won silver in that event.
Recently moving to Marseille, France to train with some of the World’s top class swimmers after 6 weeks of training Ally is in high spirits. Moving across to Berlin to take part in the FINA-ARENA-WORLD-CUP, October 30th & 31st he established another national record, this time in the 200 M breaststroke. Stopping the clock at 2:10.79 he set a new mark in the final of this event erasing the previous 2:24.79 set by Cross 9 years ago in December 2001. He next lowered his time in his Olympic event, 200 M Individual Medley when he erased his old record done in 2004 finishing in 1:57.38 in the final of this event. Next it will be to Dubai from December 15-19 at the 10th FINA WORLD SHORT COURSE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS where the battle in the pool will continue.
