Martyn Forde rewrites Barbados record
books
The Barbados

freestyle swimmer of Martyn Forde at the Bell
Grand Prix swim meet in Toronto.
This meet had a format whereby heats were swum over short course meters and the
finals over long course meters. Martyn Forde (Toronto
SwimClub) broke his own national standard in the
50 meter freestyle over 25 meters when he clocked 22.78 bettering the 22.90
Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships in 2006 over Quebec. He then returned to snap his own
long course record clocking 23.30 to better the 23.32 he set this July in Alberta ,Canada to
finish fourth in the championship finals. The time is just off the
Olympic B qualifying time of 23.13. Teammate
Terence Haynes clocked 22.97 in the heats and 23.61 to finish
sixth.
Forde continued his record breaking form in the 100
freestyle when he smashed 2 time Olympian Damian Alleyne's
mark of 50.89 with a time of 50.58 .Haynes was
close to taking the record for himself when stopped the clock in 50.64. In the
B Finals Haynes came just short of beating his national record of 51.48 when he
finished the 2 lap sprint in 51.94 for 3rd Forde placed 6th in 53.22.
The Bajan duo placed 4th in the
400 meter freestyle relay (50 meter format) Haynes led off the Toronto swim Club A team
in 52.95 while Forde anchored in 53.64 for a total time of 3:28.05
